Terms and Conditions for Caledonian Sweeps Ltd

1. Introduction.

These terms and conditions govern the provision of our services, including but not limited to chimney sweeping, inspections, installations and other associated services. By engaging our services, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully before proceeding.

2. Professional Service.

Your chimney will be inspected and swept by a qualified chimney sweep trained to national standards.

All services are carried out in good faith. While brief visual inspections of the appliance and chimney are conducted, due to the hidden nature of chimneys and related systems, this information should not be relied upon as a guarantee of safety or freedom from faults, including issues related to age, misuse, or poor installation.

Unless otherwise informed by the homeowner or the person granting access to the property, it is assumed that the appliance has been safely and correctly installed and is in a suitable condition to be swept.

3. Booking and Confirmation.

  • All bookings must be made via our website, phone, or email.

  • A booking is confirmed only when you receive a confirmation email or notification from us.

  • We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule bookings due to unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, we will notify you promptly and offer an alternative date.

4. Pricing and Payment.

  • Payment is due upon completion of the service unless otherwise agreed in writing.

  • We accept payment via cash, card, or bank transfer.

  • Late payments may incur additional charges as permitted by law.

5. Your Obligations.

  • You must ensure clear access to the chimney and surrounding areas before our visit.

  • It is your responsibility to remove any fragile or valuable items near the work area.

  • You must inform us of any known defects or issues with your chimney or appliances prior to our arrival.

  • Pets and children must be kept supervised and in a separate room for the duration of our visit. It is the responsibility of the customer or a designated person to ensure their safety. Caledonian Sweeps Ltd will not accept liability for any loss or injury resulting from unsupervised pets or children.

6. Our Obligations.

  • We will perform the services with reasonable care and skill in accordance with industry standards.

  • We will take all necessary precautions to protect your property during the service.

  • Any recommendations provided by us are based on our professional assessment and are for your consideration.

7. Cancellation Policy.

  • You may cancel or reschedule your booking up to 24 hours before the appointment without penalty.

  • Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment will incur a cancellation fee.

8. Damage & Liability.

  • Underlying Faults: If damage occurs during sweeping, this may indicate pre-existing issues with the chimney or appliance. Sweeping cannot cause damage to a sound system; it may only expose faults already present.

  • Chimney Liners: Stainless steel liners have a limited lifespan depending on factors such as material quality, fuel type, frequency of use, and installation method. If a liner fails during sweeping, it is likely due to underlying degradation, inadeqate installation or misuse. Advice on corrective action will be provided if this occurs.

  • Cowls and Chimney Pots: Cowls and pots may deteriorate over time due to poor-quality materials or improper fitting. We cannot accept responsibility for cowls or pots becoming loose, breaking, or falling during sweeping, nor for any resulting damage.

9. Waste Disposal.

Debris, soot, and other waste materials resulting from the sweeping process may be left with the customer in suitable bags for general refuse disposal. Caledonian Sweeps Ltd does not provide waste removal services.

10. Data Protection.

  • We respect your privacy and handle your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available on our website.

  • You have the right to:

    • Request access to your personal data

    • Request correction or deletion of your data

    • Withdraw consent at any time (if applicable)

    • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe your rights are being violated

11. Complaints.

  • If you are not satisfied with our service, please contact us promptly to resolve the issue.

  • Complaints must be submitted in writing within 14 days of the service date.

12. Governing Law.

  • These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland.

  • Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.

13. Changes to Terms and Conditions.

We reserve the right to update these terms and conditions as necessary. The latest version will always be available on our website.

14. Customer Preparation.

  • Chimneys must not be used for at least 18 hours before the appointment to ensure safe sweeping conditions.

  • All ash, debris, and other items should be cleared from the fire grate prior to our arrival.

  • A clear working space of approximately 6ft in front of the appliance is required. Please remove furniture, coffee tables, and items from the hearth area.

15. Fees & Charges.

  • Inspection Fee – £40: Appointments are booked with the expectation that a chimney will be swept. If sweeping is not possible due to access issues, installation faults, or safety hazards, an Inspection Fee of £40 per chimney will be charged. This includes advice on remedial actions and any necessary documentation.

  • Missed Appointment Fee – £40: A fee of £40 will be applied if we cannot access the property at the agreed appointment time.

  • Deposits: For bookings involving three or more chimneys, a non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required to secure the appointment. The remaining balance is due upon completion.
